Outlook 2003 email archiving

by on Aug.13, 2010, under IT

Just thought I would write a small post about something I have discovered in Outlook before I forget. If you have auto archiving setup and users are complaining that mail is not been archived then check for this. Say you have it setup to archive items 1 month or older, if the user moves an email from the inbox in 3 weeks time from the inbox to a sub folder then that email will be archived from the date that it was moved and not from the date they received it. Everytime you move email it starts from the date you moved it which can be a bit annoying, personally I think it would be better if it would just look at the date you received it and archive from then.

Virgin or Sky

A couple of months ago I changed from Sky to Virgin, one of the reason’s was that I was not willing to pay a sub for channels like MTV HD, Nat Geo HD. With Virgin I get these for free and also get ESPN HD for free which saves me £10 a month. Another advantage was broadband, its slightly more exspensive with virgin but I do get 20m and not the 12m I as getting from Sky.

When it comes to content the on demand stuff is superb, I really enjoy going back and watching old programs such as the IT Crowd and some others, its great to watch these when you want. I also really enjoy on demand music as my daughter likes her music and pick any video she wants and watch it for free. Luckily for me there is also the audi channel on on demand which I enjoy, dont think sky even have the audi channel anymore.

Hardware wise I’ve got the new Samsung HD box which is so much nicer than the old virgin box which is still kicking about. The new Samsung boxes are alot smaller, sexier and very quiet. The biggest advantage to the new samsung box is the speed of the menus, these are so much quicker than the older box, even quicker than my Sky HD box.

I can’t think of one reason why I would go back to sky, maybe when they bring out 3D that may tempt me but no doubt there will be another sub.

The Year of 3D

by on Jan.14, 2010, under AV Equipment

Well this looks like it’s going to be the year of 3D, with Tv’s from Panasonic and Sony on the way. Other companies will follow with a firmware upgrade for the PS3 also on the way, there will be new 3D Bluray players, 3D games and loads of 3D films. Having watched the recent 3D content on ch4 HD I have to say I was quite impressed, this was using the old way of doing 3D so can’t wait to see the more updated and new tech way by Panasonic and Sony.

So get saving as 3D is on the way and it’s going to be good, fingers crossed!

Windlee Windfarm

by on Oct.17, 2009, under Countryside

Well today i went to Windlee Windfarm which is 10 mins from my house, its located in Eaglesham and you can see it from miles away. Everytime I’ve went to East Kilbride or Ayrshire I’ve seen the windfarm in the distance and always wanted to see it. Noticed in th herald that you could go by car and visit it, so I did. It was fantastic, theres a small visitor centre with a cafe, a small area for your bikes and also a part with showers to get washed and changed. The size of the site is massive, very busy with families of all ages and lots of people with there bikes. Hopefully so I will be getting a mountain bike and head up at the weekends. I beleive its the biggest windfarm in europe and well worth seeing, luckily it’s near where I live and will be visiting alot for either walks with the dog, my daughter or taking the bike. The view on the way back is also something on a clear day.

All in all fantastic.

Pure Sensia

Stunning

Stunning

As some of you already know, I love my tech and the new pure radio looks and sound the business. Radio is something I love and presently use a Pure Evoke DAB which is excellent but when I seen the new Pure Sensia I just thought I’ve got to have that. Aswell as being a DAB radio you also get a wifi connection for connecting to Radio stations all over the world, not only that you get acesss to facebook and twitter with its touch screen interface. For those of you with ipods you can also connect your ipod to it. To find out more about it just use google where you will find out alot more info, this new sleek cool DAB is out end of october and priced at £249, wonder how many people will have this on there chrimo list.

Vista SP1

Well I’ve eventually went and done it, I’ve upgraded Vista to SP1. You may be wondering why it’s taking me so long to do it, the reason is that I’ve had no problems at all with Vista and I may be in the minority. There seems to be quite a few grumbles from people having issues with Vista but I’ve had none. I’ve been using Vista for over 14 months and it’s possibly crashed once.  I use a mixed variety of applications from web tools to games and they all run fine. I do have a pretty decent spec of pc with 4gb of ram and intel quad core processor, it all runs perfectly. I’ve recently upgraded my graphics card and there has been no issues with that.

Anyway, I thought I would upgade to SP1 since it’s been out for so long, I’ve not had a chance to read in detail the improvements it’s supposed to bring but one I read was performance. Since Upgrading I wouldn’t say that I’ve noticed any improvement on performance but I never did have any issues. Upgrade went fine and all applications seem to be fine. Time to start looking at SP2 and see what that bring to the table.
